Upon
the departure of Dr. Steffanie Strathdee in 1998,
responsibility for the Vanguard Project was assumed by Dr.
Robert Hogg, who has been a member of both the Vanguard
research team and its Community
Advisory Committee since the study began.
Dr. Hogg is a demographer who
joined the BC
Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS in 1992 after serving as
a post-doctorate fellow in the Pacific region of the Canadian
HIV Trials Network. Hogg's recent work has concentrated on
the natural history of HIV disease, the impact of HIV disease
on population health and HIV/AIDS related issues. He currently
holds a number of research grants, including the National
Health Scholar Award from Health
Canada, and is an Assistant Professor in the Department
of Health Care and Epidemiology in the Faculty of Medicine
at the University
of British Columbia.
