| Artist John
Ferrie was born and raised in Vancouver. He is pictured here
with the Vanguard staff at the launch of the project in May '95.
Since graduating from the Emily
Carr College of Art and Design in 1988, Ferrie has had over 50
exhibitions in a number of countries, including the United
States and Japan. He is perhaps best-known to Vancouver
residents as the artist behind the colourful fish banners which
decorated Robson Street throughout the summer of 1994.
Ferrie is also well-known for his
extensive charitable work, having donated artwork to a number of
high-profile non-profit agencies. He painted the logo for "A
Loving Spoonful" (Vancouver Meals Society), the poster
for the "Taste of the Nation" fundraiser, and a recent
campaign for AIDS
Vancouver.
With other works showing in
Toronto, Miami, Los Angeles and Japan, Ferrie is quickly
becoming an artist with international recognition. His work is
bold and strong with a myriad of bright colours and solid
imagery. The painting which appears on the print materials for
the Vanguard Project is entitled "Bob the Dog" and
delivers Ferrie's recurring message of "love and
condoms."
