The Monday Health Project

The Monday Health Project will continue to operate for another year. Launched in June 1998, the Monday Health Project offers free health services to gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered people on Mondays at the Three Bridges Community Health Centre.

Service providers at the Monday Health Project include physicians, nurses and several types of counsellors, including a community counsellor, an alcohol and drug counsellor, a therapist, and peer counsellors representing a number of community-based agencies.

This began as a pilot project to assess the need for queer-specific health services; to provide an entry point for people who aren't accessing health services; and to model the idea of operating a one-day-per-week queer-specific clinic within existing health care facilities.

The Monday Health Project has been the result of a collaboration among a number of community-based agencies and health care professionals, and has been running for nearly a year with virtually no budget. Most of the service providers at the Monday Health Project are borrowed from other agencies, and supplies and facilities are provided by the Three Bridges Community Health Centre.

In addition to the DSCHC and the Vanguard Project, community partners in the Monday Health Project include: The Centre, AIDS Vancouver, the Street Nurse Outreach Program, Family Services of Greater Vancouver, YouthCO AIDS Society, the GLBT Health Association, the High Risk Project Society, and the LGBT PHAC (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgendered Population Health Advisory Committee.)
