Vanguard Project's first paper published in AIDS journal
Preliminary findings from the Vanguard
Project have been presented to community groups, academic conferences
and government committees since the study began in May 1995. Now
our first academic paper has been published. Entitled "Determinants of sexual risk-taking
among young HIV-negative gay and bisexual men," the
paper appeared in the September 1998 issue of the Journal of
AIDS & Human Retroviruses.
The full text of this paper is posted on the Vanguard web site,
or a copy can be mailed to you by request. Other academic papers
currently in review with various publications include:
- "HIV associated risk factors among young Aboriginal
and non-Aboriginal men who have sex with men," by Katherine
Heath et al, has been accepted for publication by the International
Journal of STD & AIDS.
- "Trends in HIV infection and associated high-risk behaviours
among young gay and bisexual men," by Dr. Steffanie Strathdee
et al, is under review with the Canadian Medical Association
Journal.
- "Social determinants of suicide attempts in a cohort
of young men who have sex with men," by Michael Botnick
et al, has been submitted to Social Science and Medicine.
- "Factors associated with willingness to participate
in HIV vaccine trials among HIV-negative injection drug users
and young gay and bisexual men," by Dr. Steffanie Strathdee
et al, has been submitted to AIDS & Behavior.
- "Comparison of sexual behaviours, unprotected sex, and
substance use between two independent cohorts of gay and bisexual
men," by Kevin Craib et al, has been submitted to AIDS.

are published.
