The Vanguardian
is the newsletter of the Vanguard Project, which was initially
produced in response to a suggestion made by members the Community Advisory Committee for the Vanguard
Project.
To date we have tried various mechanisms for communicating with Vanguard participants and the community -- including brochures and updates, press releases, media interviews and articles submitted to the local gay press -- and we will continue to do so in the future.
But it was felt that a periodical newsletter would be an effective way of keeping the community up-to-date on the progress of the study.
The Vanguardian will be distributed to participants, test sites, and local community agencies. If you'd like to be added to our mailing list, please let us know.
We would also welcome your feedback, so please don't hesitate to contact us with any comments, questions and suggestions you may have.
I'd like to extend thanks to all the physicians, nurses and staff of the test sites participating in the study, as well as the representatives of the community-based agencies who have contributed to the Community Advisory Committee.
And, of course, special thanks is due to the study participants, who continue to complete questionnaires, submit test results and provide blood samples on an annual basis.
