LOCATION: BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE), Vancouver, BC
JOB: Working under the direction of the Co-Directors of the Urban Health Research Initiative (UHRI), the Research Coordinator assists in the planning, development and implementation of various studies focused on substance use, HIV/AIDS and urban health.
ORGANIZATION: The BC-CfE currently employs a team of Statisticians, Programmers, Data Managers, Clinical Research Assistants, Data Analysts and Data Entry Clerks who work collaboratively on cohort-based epidemiological and clinical studies, and a program of qualitative research. The BC-CfE is a world renown HIV/AIDS Research Centre including Research Laboratory, Clinical Trials, Drug Treatment Program, Epidemiology and Professional Education Programs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates development, implementation and maintenance of the research studies and projects; recruits subjects; maintains follow-up of study subjects; collects data for existing and future projects
- Supervises other front-line research staff, including interviewers and data entry staff
- Contributes to the design and creation of communications and public relations tools; coordinates meetings among community, staff, research teams and support staff
- Assists Principal Investigators, research managers and financial coordinator with various administrative tasks associated with the day-to-day operations of research studies and projects
- Health related work which includes targeting disease prevention programs for those particularly at risk
- Education and employment - which involves arranging training, advice and support for different groups of people
- May work closely with professionals in the community and be involved in creating publicity to promote research, providing information to and between a wide range of organizations and groups
- Supports, develops and evaluates strategies that encourage community participation in activities
- Administrative work, which may include written correspondence, preparing submissions and reports
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Social Work, Social Sciences, or related field
- Two years of related professional in a health research setting
- Clear understanding of the research process acquired through both practical and academic experience
- Experience in organizing, coordinating and managing research projects and/or grant based programs, and supervising data collection activities
- Experience in supervising other staff (including scheduling and performance evaluation)
- Experience with reporting and communication systems, including email and intraweb
- Experience in preparing documents, reports and communication materials for mass distribution
- Experience in conference/event planning and grant application preparation
- Excellent project organization, implementation and networking skills and a good memory for names and faces
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity issues, with a commitment to social inclusion issues
- Experience working with vulnerable/marginalized populations
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and Access database management; Word, Excel, database proficiency; graphics capability
